Meet Louise: Oahu Wedding Planner, Designer, and Founder of Love Letter Weddings
Welcome to our new series, Meet the Team, where we pull back the curtain and introduce you to the people who bring Love Letter Weddings to life. Weddings are deeply personal, and the team you choose matters just as much as the venue, the flowers, or the food. So we thought it was about time you got to know us too. And who better to start with than Louise, our founder, planner, and lead designer.
My Story: How It All Began
I was definitely a dreamer growing up, and a bit of a bossy oldest sister too. I loved being in charge, whether it was planning my new school year wardrobe, organizing my BFF’s surprise birthday party, or designing my dream mansion (yes, it had a glass fish tank floor, obviously). But alongside that leadership streak, I was also a sensitive kid, always tuned in to how people were feeling around me. I think that combination of wanting to create experiences and wanting everyone to feel good inside of them shaped the work I do now more than I realized at the time.
I loved helping my family host regular dinner parties, setting the table with my mom’s vintage dishes and silverware, making flower arrangements from her garden, and experimenting with elaborate dessert recipes that surprisingly often turned out well! By middle school, I was running my own summer drama camps for neighborhood kids, writing plays and corralling a cast of siblings’ friends.
In high school, I fell in love with fine dining while working at our small-town restaurant, and by the end of college, having worked in half a dozen fine dining restaurants, I had worked my way up to restaurant management. I loved describing menu items to guests, pairing wines, and watching their excitement build. Looking back, it is pretty clear that hospitality, design, and leadership were always in my DNA.
It still makes me laugh that I would try to host elaborate multi-course dinner parties for my college friends, complete with wine pairings and tablescapes, while they were perfectly happy to stand around a grill with paper plates. But for me, creating an experience was always the point.
All of these diverse experiences led to the spark that changed everything. During my last semester at the University of Hawaiʻi, I realized hotel management was not where my heart was. A new course in event management caught my attention, and even though I could not fit it into my schedule, it opened a door. I enrolled in a wedding planning certification course at the local community college, and from the very first class I knew this was it.
After finishing the certification, I interned with a local planner and learned the ins and outs of day-of coordination. I loved it, but I wanted to go deeper, building relationships with couples and diving into design. My big break came when my instructor referred a bride to the students in our wedding certification class. Out of sheer luck and a prompt email reply on my part, that bride took a chance and hired me. That first wedding launched my career, and I have never looked back.
My Signature Approach: Thoughtful, Creative, and Grounded
If I had to describe my style, I would say it is where whimsical meets intentional. I love color, texture, and movement in design, florals that feel alive, spaces that surprise and delight, and details that make your guests say, “This is the best wedding I have ever been to.”
When I am in my happy place, deep in the design process, it feels a little like solving a puzzle. Every piece matters. I want the design to be thoughtful, personal, beautiful, unique, and yes, on budget. Once I get that first round of feedback from a couple, something clicks and I can usually knock it out of the park. That is when I know we are creating something that will feel just right.
And if there is one detail my team and the rental crews can always count on me for, it is hanging elements. Whether it is florals suspended over a dance floor or lights strung in a very particular way, I have a vision for how those features should look. They know when Louise shows up with an elaborate installation schematic and her sneakers ready to climb a ladder, something magical is about to happen.
But here is the thing: beautiful design is not enough on its own. It has to be supported by structure. That belief is what shapes the way I lead Love Letter Weddings.
The Values That Guide My Work
Over the years, I have realized that everything I do as a planner and designer comes back to three core values: creativity, competency, and kindness.
Creativity: For me, creativity goes far beyond design. Yes, I delight in color palettes, textures, and spaces that feel personal and beautiful. But my creativity also shows up in how I problem-solve, think outside of the box, and bring fresh ideas to the table. Whether it is reimagining a layout on the fly, finding a thoughtful way to stretch a budget, or brainstorming a detail that feels uniquely “you,” creativity is how I keep weddings both inspired and intentional.
Competency: A beautiful wedding is only meaningful if it actually works. Competency means couples can trust me to handle details big and small, so they can relax and be present in the moment. I thrive on the systems, timelines, and vendor communication that make a wedding day run smoothly. For me, that looks like clear communication, well-thought-out systems, and the ability to problem-solve before issues even arise. It may not sound glamorous, but it is the backbone that allows creativity to shine and kindness to be felt.
Kindness: Weddings are about people, and I believe kindness and being thoughtful is at the center of what all couples are looking for in a planner. I care deeply about my couples and their guests, and I aim to make the process feel supportive, calm, and human. For me, kindness is just as important as contracts and timelines, it is what makes the entire experience memorable.
These three values, creativity, competency, and kindness, are the foundation of how I live and how I work. They shape every decision I make and every wedding I create.
Why I Do This Work
For me, it always starts with people. I genuinely love getting to know my couples, understanding what matters most to them, and building the kind of trust where they feel completely supported. That connection is what sparks the creativity to design weddings that feel both personal and unforgettable.
I believe that in today’s world, most of us spend so much of our adult lives working hard and not celebrating nearly enough. To me, part of the human experience is making space for joy, feeling fully loved, seen, and celebrated. A wedding is one of the most beautiful ways to do that, gathering the people who matter most to honor who you are.
That is why I do this work. Because when couples walk into a celebration that reflects them, knowing they can be fully present with the people they love while everything else is taken care of, it feels like the best kind of joy. It is that mix of connection and creativity that keeps me passionate about what I do.
